Silicon Valley (Steve Jobs)

  1.  What are the factors that contributed to the success and failure of Steve Jobs as a technopreneur?

- After I watch the movie entitled The Pirates of the Silicon Valley, I become aware of that Steve Jobs is one of the most successful entrepreneurs in his time and even by this generation. Working with his friend Steve Wozniak was a great tandem for them to establish a company so, they founded the apple computers. Before they become a great entrepreneur, they all started from a scratch but Steve Jobs pursue his dream to become famous and to be proud of everybody.
“This is an economy in unfathomable disarray. To lose Jobs in the middle of it and perhaps permanently will add both psychic and practical depression.
Jobs don’t just make Apple better. It makes each industry he touches better. Sure, he appropriated the idea of the “graphical user interface” from Xerox. But he ran with it and made it work smoothly for anyone who wanted to figure out computing on their own.”

As an entrepreneur Steve Jobs has his ups and downs to become a very successful person. Many factors that contributed to Steve Jobs success are: first to learn to love your work and find the true passion on it. This is a great help for him to achieve his goals and dreams in life. Second is to do always your best, by keeping this attitude Steve Jobs has easily get the accomplishments of his works because in every job he will never  stop until he know that it is not good enough to release or introduce it to the people. Next Steve Jobs is a positive thinker, by his idea which is “start small, think big” by this simple thing to begin with, and then progress to more complex ones. He also thinks beyond what is lay ahead. And Steve Jobs was an industrious and intelligent also he always thinks different from the other so that he can exile in his own way. Another factor to the contribution of Steve Jobs success is the determination and courage for his every work to be done. Ha have also an attitude that is what you can do now, do it right now and don’t let it done by tomorrow. This attitude of him was so very inspiring and challenging to all of us, for we must inculcate to mind that we must do right away the things we think that we can do it right now because maybe tomorrow lot of things will come and work for you and you can never do it the thing that given to you first.

Steve says "Look for the next big thing.  Find a set of ideas that need to be quickly and decisively acted upon and jump through that window.  Sometimes the first step is the hardest one.   Just take it!  Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition."-  http://ezinearticles.com

First, the well - known motto of Steve Jobs is “Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else’s life,” this motto of Steve Jobs brought him to the top of his, this constituted in his career to become a billionaire in his young age of 17.
Steve Jobs is keen observer that after seeing the work of Wozniak in creating a computer, Steve Jobs seized the opportunity of that computer in how it could gain respect in the market. And there Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak began their million trips to success.
Again Steve Jobs said “You have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future,” and “You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.” the strong personality of Steve Jobs was part of his success formula.
Steve Jobs said “The only way to do great work is to love what you do,” and “If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle.” Yes, his determination was great and loving what you do is one of the keys that Steve Jobs used. - http://www.bukisa.com
If Steve Jobs have many factors that contribute to his success for his career as a technopreneur he has also have many factors that also contribute for his failure.

One of the factors to the failure of Steve Jobs career was his attitude of being to bossy and too self-centred person, it comes to the point that he even don’t care of his employee and even forget his own friend Steve Wozniak and even his own family although in the movie there was not shown of the Steve Jobs family. It’s all because he was so busy making money through to his product and also how to introduce it to the people and get their attention to it. Another factor was he is so perfectionist to his employee that he wants them to perfect the program and the product he have given to them and finished it right away then. He doesn’t want a dull output or outcome for his product. Added to the factor, Steve Jobs was insensitive when it comes to the feelings and the situation for his own employee that he can easily pull out the wires down and hurry up to finished some of the things where he already know that his employee was trying all their effort they have to make their design or programs made perfect and good enough but Steve Jobs have all ruin it. The other factor was he wasn’t good enough when it comes to who are the people should he must to trust too. And by this characteristic of him, Bill Gates easily pirates the Apple Company and developed it. In the end Bill Gates take all the credit for it until now. To the fact Apple Computers that were founded by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak was already a part of the Microsoft Company which headed by Bill Gates today. But, as what I’ve have seen in the movie Steve Jobs continue his business the Apple Computers by holding the Macintosh Computer and he also agree the condition of Gates that the Apple will be under to the Microsoft Company.

Therefore, Steve Jobs is a risk-taker and a good technopreneur so all he have undergone to his life, all of those it maybe good or bad that take him down and to be failure in some aspects of his business but still all of those stuffs are being use for him to put on the top and to the position he has dreamt off and lead him to be a victorious technopreneur today.

  1. 2.    How do you see yourself as a technopreneur?

Before I will give an answer to the question let’s first define what a technopreneur is all about. Since it is already spread all over the world and many of us still don’t know what is all about the technoprenuership.

A technopreneur is an entrepreneur who is technology savvy, creative, innovate, dynamic, dares to be different and take the unexplored path, and very passionate about their work. They take challenges and strive to lead their life with greater success. They don’t fear to fail. They take failure as a learning experience, a stimulator to look things differently and stride for next challenge. Technopreneurs continuously go through an organic process of continual improvement and always try to redefine the dynamic digital economy.

Technology and entrepreneurial skills are driving many economies to prosperity. The most famous of them all is, Bill Gates, who makes Microsoft a household name all over the world. Steve Jobs - well known for his innovations. iPods – the must carried gadgets by young population as today’s generation. Look at the success of Google – brain child of Sergey Brin and Larry Page. Who don’t know Google? Google is the very famous search engine that most of us are using nowadays.

Technopreneurship is not a product but a process of synthesis in engineering the future of a person, an organization, a nation and the world. In a digital, knowledge based society, strategic directions or decision-making processes will be demanding and complex. This requires tertiary level and professional development programs and training to produce strategic thinkers who will have the skills to succeed in a dynamically changing global environment. Traditional educational programs, however, lack the methodology to transform today's students into creative, innovative, visionary global leaders who understand the importance of technopreneurship.

The first thing that I hear about technopreneurship, this is a difficult because it is another way of entrepreneur. For me it is hard for the reasons that I am afraid to mingled and talk to many people whom I really don’t know and another thing is I don’t have those verbal skills to approach people but now I try my self to change and practice all of those attitude of mine to be developed so I can be successful someday. Because all I know, being an entrepreneur you have all the confidence and skills to encourage people to get buy of your products.

By now, as we take this subject in our IT electives 1 which the technopreneurship, we will tackle all about technopreneurship it’s way and processes and also on how to create your own business to near future to come.

As I understand it, technopreneurship is, by a large part, still entrepreneurship. The difference is that technopreneurship is either involved in delivering an innovative hi-tech product or makes use of hi-tech in an innovative way to deliver its product to the consumer or both.

Talking about the question on how I can see myself as a technopreneurship? All I can say is, as I relate it to the true definition and explanations about the technoprenuership, I should say that I haven’t all of this attitude and knowledge to become a successful technopreneurship. But having like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and many great technopreneurship it makes me inspire and have the courage to be like them in the near future to come.

In addition to this idea, after that our instructor discuss to us what is really the importance of technopreneurship to a certain country because it can create an employment, decentralization and diversification of business, promote of a technology, capital formation and promotion of entrepreneurial culture.

I have learn to our lesson that being a technopreneur we should have this kind of characteristic like being a risk-taker, hard-working, self-consistent, profit-oriented, goal-oriented, persistent, willing to listen and sets-own standards. And by this, I’m sure that I would be a good one. All I have to do is to make use all the resources I have to start such a business.

In relation to this topic, we are the nations that have a good pool of English speaking youth who receive accent and job related training before they are inducted at a salary which is much lesser than what their counterparts in first world nations would demand. This allows first world organizations to get higher profits and provide better services by lowering the prices and by recruiting more labor than they could possibly do otherwise. In addition to benefiting the first world nations, business process outsourcing has also benefited third world nations by generating much needed jobs. http:// what is Business Process Outsourcing .htm

Maybe five years or six years later, as I can visualize myself being a technopreneur in the coming years to come and by that time maybe I’ve already graduated in my course that time (hopefully), I think have my own computer company or any business which is a technology dependent. And as the boss of a certain company, I will be dealing my own employee right and treat them good and be friends with them by this I can easily get their trust and loyalty and establish a employee and boss relationship. I will give those lots of benefits and a good salary rate so that they will not even suppose to leave my company and transfer to another company. These will all benefit to us and I assure that by doing this my company will be more productive and progressive as I imagine. I will make some plan for the improvement of my own company and made some products or an invention that many people will be benefits of my work and also, I can guarantee to them that it will surely be user-friendly and functional so that they will love and appreciate it.

And I wish that all of those I have stated above on how I see myself as a technopreneur someday, will be made come true in the near future to come and for that I can truly say, this is my greatest achievement of my life being an Information Technology student or as graduate of this course.

  1. 3.    Would you take the same career path that Steve Jobs took? Why or why not?

Watching the movie and  knowing the story behind of the success of Steve Jobs has achieve in life in the age of 21 years old something and all the characters that are portray in the movie like Steve Wozniak and Bill Gates you will surely amaze by this people on how they become successful in their life. The movie shows how an entrepreneur is Steve Jobs, emphasizing the importance of design and understanding the crucial role of aesthetics play in public appeal. It also shows his work driving forward the development of products that are both functional and elegant has earned him a devoted following.

By that, I can say that maybe I would take also the same career path that Steve Jobs took because as I’ve noticed that the career he chooses was amazing, admirable and fascinating to take same path like him. As we can observe now, Steve Jobs invention or innovation was a huge help to us mass people especially to us youth and internet savvy. Without his invention we can’t have all of these gadgets where are we using right now. We are so blessed to have all of these, now that most of us are technology dependent.

Apple Computers that was founded by Steve Jobs and his friend Steve Wozniak was so intelligent to create this such things was it very famous in every year particularly when they releases of a new one with an all new design and features that can hook people’s attention. Just like the famous and talk of a town gadget today from the apple computers is their “Apple iPAD”. It has a very unique and amazing feature that is convenient for the user to use it. But before Apple iPAD or the Apple iPod was release to the market, the Macintosh became the first commercially successful small computer with a graphical user interface. The development of the Mac was started by Jef Raskin, and eventually taken over by Jobs.

I am salute to Steve Jobs career because at the young age, he becomes victorious person. In fact, he is a drop out student from Reed College after one semester. So, at my age now of 19 years old and a college student, it is challenging me a lot that I can also be a Steve Jobs position if I will be a hard-working student and have the courage and determination to take all the risk to have a business by even started with a small one. Just want like Jobs and Wozniak do.

The Apple II became the first PC to hit it big. While the power of computing formerly had been available only to techies, it was suddenly delivered to classrooms, dens, and offices. A quarter-century later, he rocked the music business with Apple's iPod music player and iTunes online store.

Using HP as their model, he and "Woz" focused only on breakthrough products. Apple's blockbuster initial public offering in 1980 made Jobs tech's first celebrity CEO. Then came the Mac in 1984. The first to pack new-fangled ideas such as icons, the mouse, and computer graphics into one easy-to-use machine, the Mac cemented Jobs's standing as a prodigy.

He do all the efforts to make the Apple company will be famous and renowned. By his creative mind, he makes some designs that are attractive to the people. But his youthful perfectionism nearly killed his career just because of his attitude that is too much for the employee to hate him.

At this point of his life, I should have say that Steve Jobs sunk to his richness and famous and forget how to deal people with his surroundings. By that, I should not follow that attitude because it will be reason why I will fall down from my position easily.

Steve Job questions what is his contribution? More than anyone else, he brought digital technology to the masses. As a visionary, he saw that computers could be much more than drab productivity tools. Instead, they could help unleash human creativity and sheer enjoyment. A marketing genius, he conceived of elegant products that captured consumers' imaginations. And as a relentless perfectionist, he came up with creations that actually delivered on their promise -- raising the bar for rivals. "From the time he was a kid, Steve thought his products could change the world," says Lee Clow, chairman of TBWA/Chiat/Day and Jobs' longtime ad man.

When Jobs loses his career, a year after he returns then and continues manages again the Apple Computers. But that time Apple is already part of the Microsoft Company which manages by Bill Gates.

In recent years, the company has branched out, introducing and improving upon other digital appliances. With the introduction of the iPod portable music player, iTunes digital music software, and the iTunes Store, the company made forays into consumer electronics and music distribution. In 2007, Apple entered the cellular phone business with the introduction of the iPhone, a multi-touch display cell phone, iPod, and internet device. While stimulating innovation, Jobs also reminds his employees that "real artist’s ship", by which he means that delivering working products on time is as important as innovation and attractive design.

Jobs is both admired and criticized for his consummate skill at persuasion and salesmanship, which has been dubbed the "reality distortion field" and is particularly evident during his keynote speeches (colloquially known as "Stevenotes") at Macworld Expos and at Apple's own World Wide Developers Conferences.

Jobs announced to his employees that he had been diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his pancreas. The prognosis for pancreatic cancer is usually very grim; Jobs, however, stated that he had a rare, far less aggressive type known as islet cell neuroendocrine tumor.

Therefore, I would also take the same career path as Steve Jobs took even though he gets failure to his career but he proves it that he can move it on and raise it again. And by his return many of inventions and innovations are release by his company- the Apple Company and we know that his company was known for their renowned gadgets which is famous to the people it is all because the feature of their gadgets are very unique and attractive to us people.
